Rob Fyfe reassures on London ops

In his latest message to Air New Zealand staff, CEO Rob Fyfe has responded to mounting concerns about the airline’s commitment to maintaining the NZ-London route. He says: “It’s no secret that we are struggling to make London profitable, just as our competitors are also struggling in this task, not just on London but on most ultra-long haul routes. Passenger numbers are flat at best and, when put against the backdrop of economic turmoil in Europe, any pick up in demand for long haul air travel from London looks unlikely in the foreseeable future.

Black Magic & its little buddy

Air New Zealand’s newest Boeing 777-300ER and the last of five in its latest 777 order, arrived in Auckland last week after a 14-hour flight direct from Paine Field in Seattle. Air New Zealand Chief Pilot Captain David Morgan was at the controls and on board was Air New Zealand CEO Rob Fyfe and a small group of Air NZ technical staff.

Airline of the Year twice in three years

For the first time in the nearly 40-year history of Air Transport World’s prestigious annual awards, an airline has been named the world’s best twice in three years. Air New Zealand, which has won more ATW awards than any other carrier in the past decade, took out the Airline of the Year award for 2012, having also earned the accolade in 2010.
